We drove in to South Dakota through MO, Iowa, and Nebraska, and arrived at Union Grove State Park. It was so nice and quiet we decided to spend 2 nights. And, had a great sunset.
From there we headed to Sioux Falls, SD for gas, propane and Costco shopping. Then, for the night, we headed to Mitchell, SD to stay at R & R Campground; nothing fancy or special just quiet and Passport America.
When we left there we headed to Left Tailrace Corp of Engineers at Big Bend Dam, in Ft. Thompson, SD. I had made reservations for 2 nights, but when we got there it was so nice with water views on all sides of us and nicely spaced campsites that we stayed for a 3rd night.
On day we took a day trip to Reliance and Chamberlain SD. Reliance was just farmlands and Chamberlain was a neat town right on the Missouri river. Here are pictures of our drive.
Tonight we are in a Walmart parking lot in Pierre, SD. There were some interesting campgrounds on the river, but no pull-thrus. With staying only one night John doesn’t like disconnecting the car. We have tried to take no interstates or freeways, and drive on local country roads and have seen lots of farms and green fields.
Tomorrow we head to Wall, SD, which is a very famous place. It is the location of Wall Drugs, a very touristy store. We have a reservation there at Sleepy Hollow Campground and RV Park. From there we will drive through the Badlands. More posts after that stay.
