We left Nacogdouches on Saturday morning, figuring to drive until right after lunch. However, that didn’t happen. We stopped for lunch in Hope, Arkansas, which is the birthplace of Bill Clinton. We had lunch at a great barbeque place called Big Jake’s Barbeque.
After lunch we continued driving, hoping to find a place for the night. After several bad campgrounds, we ended up staying at the WalMart in Hot Springs, Arkansas. It was warm and humid, so missed the hookups. But, the place was very quiet.
We left Sunday morning and drove up the 70 to 30 to 630 to 430 to 40N and then to 65 to Escapees Turkey Creek Park, which is very close to Branson. The drive through Arkansas was beautiful – through the Ozarks. We crossed over a large lake and through lots of trees. Before entering Missouri, we drove through Clinton, Arkansas, Bill Clinton’s home town growing up.
On our way to the Escapees park we went to the big tourist place called Ferguson’s where we got the biggest and best homemade cinnamon rolls. That was lunch for today, and we only ate half one of the. When we got to Turkey Creek, that night we went to a local pizza place called Hook and Ladder Pizza. This is owned by Firemen and all waiters are dressed in firemen clothes and they have uniforms that you can try on. One of the waiters made a really cute flower out of folded napkins and gave it to me. All the wait staff were very friendly, and the food was pretty good.
The weather has cooled down a little and we are getting a little rain and thunder/lightning. We have to be in Sedalia on Wednesday so will have to find another place closer for Tuesday night.
