John and I left Sandia Casino on 9/30 at 8:00 am to get over to the Balloon Fiesta parking area to make sure our site was ready. Much to our surprise, Matt (the head volunteer) takes us to our site, which was not the one we have had for all the previous years. According to Matt 150 Prevost are coming in and they are taking the whole area where we used to park. They had put us in private area in front of the Volunteers motorhomes and was actually better than the other site. No bus traffic or much car traffic since we had the whole area. We were expecting 38 rigs and they had given us 4 rows of 10 spots.
Everyone that was supposed to come in this day, which was quite a few, started arriving around 11:00 and our festivities began. Before the balloons even went up, we had HappyHour around 4:30 in the afternoon. We had a Pulled Pork dinner, Hot Dog barbeque, and a Brunch.
Saturday, October 5 the Balloons started going up. I took pictures of some of the Special Shape balloons that were new for this year and some that are our favorites from previous years.
One of the Prevost owners took a great shot of one of the balloons right over our Lazy Daze group.
One day Cookie and I went to a local Farmers Market and bought 40 pounds of chilies, which we had roasted, and then brought them back to the motorhomes to bag up.
During the week the balloons were going up we had Breakfast for Dinner, Wine and Cheese Tasting, and a Tri Tip Night. We had a great Balloon Fiesta meeting new people, spending time with our favorites from years before and just “hanging out”. I made the announcement that John and I will not be doing the Balloon Fiesta next year, and Jeanne Bold volunteered to take it over.
Even Sadie enjoyed her time at the Balloon Fiesta.
After leaving the Ballon Fiesta we headed back to Colorado to beat predicted wind and snow. That week we did get snow, which is Sadie’s favorite thing.
